hold me, let me hold you (2026)
150 × 230 cm
flashe, aquarelle graphite on canvas
the paintings you see here are channeled somatic works. i create a piece of music, or connect with music made by someone else, and allow my body to be used as a conduit. through dance, sound, song and words written onto the canvas with aquarelle graphite and painted into the fibers with frankincense, vinyl paint and holy water, the painting comes to be.
this year, all of the paintings seem to want to be abstract cloud formations. which tracks, because i have become obsessed with cloud gazing in a way that i did when i was a girl, growing up in australia, surrounded by violence and chaos, finding safety in the beauty of nature and my own imagination. within the clouds you can still see the image on a lioness, watching.
hold me, let me hold you was painted in collaboration with a deeply meditative theta soundscape that i composed, produced and chanted with the hrim krim (pronounced “hreem kreem”) mantra – a sanskrit mantra for calling in the light and the power of the goddess Kali Ma. the painting comes with an mp3 file of the meditative theta soundscape (listen by pressing play on the audio player below).
